Westchester and state plumbing contractors said that they will decide later this month whether to pursue a new ban on all plastic piping for multifamily and commercial construction, now that Gov. George Pataki allowed the prohibition to quietly end as of Jan. 1.

Pataki vetoed a state Senate bill (S. 7577) that would have extended the plastic-piping ban three years through Jan. 1, 2008. AS a result, New York has now joined every other state in the nation in allowing builders to use plastic piping for all projects, not just one- and two-family houses--the only uses allowed tamer a law signed by Pataki in 1999 and extended two years later by the governor through Dec. 31.
