Westchester County travel agents say the booking season for spring and summer travel has only just begun, but some said they expect high-end customers to ignore price increases for European travel and many others to cushion the effect with Mediterranean cruise travel and package tours.

"It's just starting now, right after the holidays--that's when people start putting away their Christmas stuff and say, 'Let's start planning for this year's vacation,'" said Alesia Kozicky, owner of Dunwoodie Travel Bureau in Yonkers.

Some agents say people are choosing to avoid Europe because of uncertainty over the strength of the dollar.

"We're repositioning people to rethink their European vacation and change it to the Caribbean or Mexico, or even going down to Central America," said Charles DiGiacomo, owner of Empress Travel and Cruises in Bedford Hills. "People...
