GlaxoSmithKline to debut five vaccines with market value of up to $18 billion.

The UK's GlaxoSmithKline, the world's second largest drugmaker and a leader in biologicals, has unveiled plans to launch five major new vaccines during the next five years, with a combined market potential of L6.0-L11.0 billion ($11.0-$18.3 billion).

Speaking to investors and analysts in London, the company noted that the vaccines range from protection for infants through to the elderly, and are targeted against some of the biggest killers in society. Specifically, the five are: Cervarix, for the prevention of human papilloma virus which causes cervical cancer; Rotarix, for rotavirus gastroenteritis; Streptorix for pneumococcal disease; an improved vaccine for influenza; and vaccine combinations against meningitis.
