Nothing Kerry Wood did Wednesday was particularly surprising.

Wood was dominating, borderline unhittable, just as you'd suspect he'd be after all that time off.

There is no doubt about what Wood can do if he pitches, and there's no doubt about where the Cubs will be in October if Wood and Mark Prior can continue to take the bump.

The real story is in whether Wood takes the mound four days from now, five days after that and five days after that.

That will be some story.

As for Wednesday, Wood was Wood. At times, he ran up his pitch count (63 through 4 innings), and at times he was frugal (an 8- pitch fifth inning). As usual, his strikeout total was high (9), which also means more tosses and a quicker exit...
