Article Excerpt I was on the 86th Street cross-town bus on my way to work when my cell phone rang. It was John Meehan, artistic director of education and training at American Ballet Theatre, asking me to substitute teach on Saturdays at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. "Yes!" I said. And then the nerves started in. My stomach felt like it was filled with Madagascar hissing beetles, and I began to experience something I hadn't felt since I retired from performing seven years ago: stage fright.
The JKO School, ABT's new training ground as of January 2004, has 19 of the most talented students, ages 14-18, in New York. I would be joining a teaching staff made up of members of the ABT artistic staff and alumni including artistic director Kevin McKenzie, Meehan, Martine van Hamel, Susan Jaffe, Lupe Serrano, Ethan Brown, and Clinton Luckett.
