Study to reveal quality of care at 10 local hospitals.

Ten county hospitals are participating in a federal program intended to help patients evaluate the quality medical care these facilities provide.

The institutions are giving basic information on how they treat some of their patients to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's hospital quality initiative.

The idea is to create a nationwide database of "best practices" to provide a basis for comparison among hospitals, said department spokesman Peter Ashkenaz.
