They've set a date.

No, it's not Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, but the folks bringing you the new, condensed version of the Eugene Celebration, who announced Wednesday they would like you to reserve the weekend of Sept. 30 for their yearly party.

The nonprofit Downtown Events Management Inc. and its hired production company, Big Green Events, also set the celebration's theme: "Live on Broadway."

All the action of the 23rd annual event, officially called the Eugene Celebration Presented by Washington Mutual, will be packed on and within a block or two of Broadway.

"The footprint has changed a little bit," DEMI board member Matt Purvis said. "We're trying to concentrate the energy and festivities this year. That's one thing we're pretty excited about."
