Instruction

Softball camp: The UO softball program will host a Junior Ducks Camp on July 18-22. The camp - open to boys and girls - will teach basic fundamentals and also include games. The morning session runs from 9:30 to noon and is for children ages 6 and 7. The afternoon session runs from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and is for ages 8 and 9. Boys basketball camp: Registration is still available for the Highlander Boys Hoops Camp hosted by North Eugene High School, July 5-8. Boys in grades 1-5 will go from 9-11 a.m., while boys in grades 6-11 will go from noon-3 p.m. The cost is $40, though half-price scholarships are available. Register through the River Road Park district office at Emerald Park. Call Jim Lockard at 688-4052 for more information.

Events

Golf tournament: The third annual Relief Nursery Pro-Am tournament sponsored by Rexius is scheduled for July 11 at Shadow Hills Country Club. The tournament includes a putting contest, professional golf clinic, lunch, 18 holes of golf and a dinner complete with prizes and a raffle. Team and individual registration is open. The cost is $125 per player. Contact: Jeannine Jones, 343-9706, ext. 106.

Senior Masters: Registration is available for the 23rd annual Sports-Masters Sports Festival, which runs July 18-24 in Eugene and Cottage Grove. Sports and minimum ages include tennis (45+), raquetball (women 35+, men 40+), sand volleyball (30+), croquet (30+) and golf (50+). All participants pay a $17 fee, which includes dinner and a cap or visor. Entry fees are additional and vary by event. Registration forms are available at local athletic facilities and clubs, golf courses and Bi-Mart stores. Entry deadline is July 14. For more information, call 343-3559.

Croquet championships: The 2005 Oregon State Croquet Championship, played by International Rules, will be held at The Nines Golf Course in the RiverRidge Golf Complex on Sunday. Players from as far away as Vancouver, B.C., will be participating throughout the day. Last year's champion, Jim Herzog from Monmouth, returns to defend the cup.

Teams Forming

Ultimate leagues: Registration is currently being conducted for the 2005 city of Eugene summer adult coed ultimate league. All interested individuals must submit a registration form and entry fee of $18 to the athletic office at the Amazon Center, 2700 Hilyard St., by Thursday. Players will be placed on teams at random, and games will be played Monday evenings at Ascot Park beginning July 11. The league is open to all players 14 or older. Call 682-5409 for more information.

Goalkeeper needed: South Eugene High School area U12 girls Kidsport Klassic soccer team is looking for a goalkeeper for the fall season. She must live in the SEHS area, or be attending Spencer Butte or Roosevelt middle schools as a sixth-grader. Contact coach John Haakanson at 342-2780.

Accomplishments

Springfield softball: The McKenzie Rapids, an ASA Fastpitch 16U B team from Springfield, has qualified for the national tournament for the second straight season. They took third place at a qualifying tournament in Spokane on June 11-12 to earn a trip to Roseville, Calif., for nationals the week of Aug. 1. The Rapids are made up primarily of players from Thurston High School, though the team also has players from Churchill, South Eugene, North Eugene, Sheldon and Elmira.
