In a perverse way, which in sports sometimes is the best way, this was good for the White Sox.

I mean, OK, so Brandon McCarthy didn't come up from the minor leagues and pitch a perfect game Monday night.

The Sox covered for McCarthy's shaky outing. Like older brothers, they protected him from the bad guys.
