More than 160,000 adults and 63,000 children in San Diego County suffer from asthma. However, the important message of asthma management is beginning to have an impact. Since 1998, the rate of deaths from asthma per 100,000 people has declined from 1.8 to 1.1 in 2003. This is good news, but it doesn't eliminate the problems asthma causes: death, lost money in missed days of school or work and the expense of medical care.
