Article Excerpt Jimmy Fowler was intrigued. "What is this thing called Junior Achievement (JA)?" he asked himself. He was attending a regional meeting of a sales and marketing club in Baton Rouge, La., and everyone around him was singing the praises of JA.
"I knew we had the Junior League in Mississippi, but I had never heard of Junior Achievement," said Fowler, a well-known Jackson entrepreneur who owns Fowler Buick-GMC Trucks, Highland Village and Holiday Inns. "I just listened and kept my mouth shut. I learned that Junior Achievement was an organization that taught children basic economic education. It sounded great to me, and I got excited about it. There were chapters in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Mobile, Atlanta, Little Rock--I thought if they can do it, we can do it. So, I left there determined to bring JA to Jackson and Mississippi."
Fowler came back home and immediately called Marvin Butts in the Atlanta regional...
