When Dick Molpus was in high school, several buddies wanted to start a debate team, so they checked out a how-to book from the library and headed to Meridian, Jackson and Columbus to compete.
"We were summarily thrashed, but I nevertheless learned a skill that was beneficial to me for the rest of my life," said Molpus, who earned the title Most Polite at Philadelphia High.
Molpus served three consecutive terms as Mississippi Secretary of State before founding what has become the largest timberland investment management organization (TIMO) in the Deep South. By yearend, Molpus Woodlands Group, LLC, one of 14 TIMOs in the U.S., will have more than one million acres of timberland under management in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas.
