I met an officer at a bank the other day who was organizing a drive for Heartland Blood Centers. He welcomed me to sign up.

I figured since my health is good and I'm at least 17, weigh more than 110 pounds and have never had a tattoo or any body piercing, I was a prime candidate.

Also, something intrigued me about depositing blood at a bank.

I arrived for my 9:40 a.m. appointment Wednesday and was escorted to a pre-screening room to fill out a two-page questionnaire about my lifestyle. The fact-finding mission provided information to assure my blood was safe to save the lives of others.
