Hop on the Freecycle

The Freecycle concept is made up of groups across Illinois and the world. It's a grassroots movement of people who give and get stuff for free in their own towns. Each group is run by a local volunteer moderator. Membership is free. To sign up, find your community at www.freecycle.org.

A gas grill, treadmill and a patio set recently were available for the taking in Aurora.

In a few hours, all were gone.

The quick connection and later pickup of the items was facilitated by the Internet group, www.freecycle.org.

The concept is simple. Freecycling allows people to "recycle" unwanted items and offer them up to other freecyclers. People find a group near their home and sign up online. Then they are free to give away and pick up anything.

The items run the gamut. Empty boxes, Christmas lights and old magazines, almost-new...
