Cover the Downing Street memo
I am quite stunned at the silence of The Register-Guard regarding the release of the Downing Street memo several weeks ago.
The newspaper, like many others, falls into the category of somehow failing to report extensively on the smoking gun of the Bush administra- tion.
The memo proves once and for all that despite claims to the contrary, President Bush wasn't led astray by bad intelligence. Instead, he fixed intelligence to support the weapons of mass destruction theory. This is startling, because it established that by July 2002, Bush was set on going to war, and all the prewar claims of wanting diplomacy and talks to work to avoid war were bunk.
In the interest of the public, it behooves The Register-Guard to print important information, and this newspaper, the news media and other sources have failed us miserably.

Prayer breakfast flame fading
Lately, I am concerned that the debate over Mayor Kitty Piercy's decision to forego an upcoming prayer breakfast may be waning. Relevant comments here among the letters seem to have dwindled to a scant one or two per day, which should be cause for alarm.
