Like Third Wayers, Labour revisionists and Italian autonomists (Nenni's distancing of the PSI from communism after 1956), saw themselves adapting to new conditions and were accused of betraying socialism. But Favretto holds the Third Way is more than revisionism redivivus. What "sets today's 'Third Way' apart from any earlier revisionism is the renunciation of the long-term aspiration of replacing capitalism with socialism" (p. 172).
