The resulting industry shake-up is changing the way TV is produced, distributed and consumed, reports European Economic Correspondent Rana Foroohar. Now that video is just another form of digital data, television can be delivered not only by traditional broadcasters, cable or satellite operators, but also by telecoms via their copper wire or fiber- optic networks, or by ISPs and portals over the Internet. Sending television over the Web-so-called Internet protocol televisions, or IPTV-is gaining steam. Interactive television allows viewers to take part, but also to easily record and share content or bypass commercials entirely.
