Article Excerpt HARRISBURG, Pa., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- PA Gov. Edward G. Rendell today offered the following statement in honor of Memorial Day and designated 3 p.m. on Monday as a time to pause and unite in remembrance while ordering all flags to be flown at half staff on Monday, May 30:
"This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day, a special day on our nation's annual calendar of commemorations that was celebrated for the first time in Boalsburg, Centre County. It is a holiday that has taken on renewed meaning for all of us over the past few years.
Memorial Day is a time for mourning and for meaning, for remembering and for respect. In Pennsylvania, as in so many other places across America and around the world, people will struggle to find words that properly honor the lives of our departed heroes.
The war in Iraq is a compelling reminder of how important it is to remember our grandfathers, our family members, our loved ones, our neighbors and our friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
