With a writing career spanning both the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Vernon Lee was a well-known intellectual in both British and continental circles. A woman of letters who produced more than forty books, including histories, novels, dialogues, essays, and fantastic tales, Lee is principally remembered as an influential historian of aesthetics.
