"High and Mighty Queens" is a collection of fourteen essays initially presented at meetings of the Shakespeare Association of America or the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women. Given these origins, they will be most useful for other scholars and provide a useful overview of contemporary work on the subject. Literary historians have written nine of the essays, historians the other five. Although the collection as a whole is therefore interdisciplinary, only one essay, Carole Levin's "The Taming of the Queen: Foxe's Katherine and Shakespeare's Kate," uses both historical and literary sources to support its argument.
