Biographies of Elizabeth I employee various approaches. Some are more personal biographies than the histories of a reign, but reflects recent scholarly interpretations. David Starkey's recent book is a good example of the form. Others attempt to contextualize Elizabeth the person within the reign of Elizabeth the queen, such as Wallace MacCaffrey's. David Loades, one of the most prolific Tudor historians writing today, who has already published a biography of Mary Tudor, presents us with something between these types. It tries to focuses on Elizabeth the woman, but it delineates connections between the royal persona, her personality, and the events in her world.
