The several London chronicles of the fifteenth century (this book identifies forty-four of them) form an interesting genre in English historical writing. Informal compilations that cannibalize their sources and alternate shared and unique material indiscriminately, their interrelationships preclude any kind of stemma and have repelled systematic study until now. Some representative examples have indeed been published, like the so-called Great Chronicle of London and Bale's Chronicle, with some attempts, usually ill-founded, to establish their relationships; C.
