This narrative survey is designed to introduce North American students to Early Modern English history. Though it embraces recent scholarship to illuminate how England developed into a vibrant constitutional monarchy and world power, its authors presume neither previous historical knowledge nor a sophisticated subject vocabulary. The work's primary organization is chronological; however, the authors include three useful Macaulay-like chapters that analyze the English people and their institutions around 1485, 1603, and 1714.
