Chiron entered Aquarius this year and will be a significant influence through that sign until 2011. Aquarius is the sign which governs humanity, and it is plain for all to see that we are poised on the brink of massive changes, both in terms of our environment and the awareness with which we shape and live our lives. The transit of Chiron through Aquarius is helping to facilitate and accelerate these changes.

Chiron last travelled through Aquarius in the second half of the '50s and early '60s, and only a brief glance at the events of that time is needed to get a feeling of the tremendous effect that Chiron had.

Aquarius is the sign of science and invention, and surely one of the greatest discoveries we have seen is the silicon chip. Aquarius is the sign of freedom and choice, and we can see how the contraceptive pill has played its part in this in modern times. Aquarius rules nuclear energy, so the development and use of nuclear fuel is another key discovery. These are just three examples of Chiron at work in Aquarius.

In astrology Chiron relates to the wounded healer, which in simple terms means there is a price to pay for progress, and as we know from the examples given, this has been borne out. Breast cancer and the Chernobyl disaster are examples that immediately spring to mind. Yet Chiron does heal, and in Aquarius it works to elevate our consciousness so that we are able to make wiser, more compassionate choices regarding the way in which we live our lives: compassion for humanity and compassion for the world in which we live.

The Aquarian age is the age of Humanity, a time when we can all live our lives to our fullest potential, a time when equality is something that is precious, prized and special. Beamed images from around the world show us that we have some way to go; we are made increasingly aware of how lucky we are to have such basic things as food and shelter while so many do not.
