Being in the present moment may be the ideal state, but it's easy to get distracted with yesterday's news, today's problems and tomorrow's fears. Staying in the 'now' takes lots of practice ... and a few tricks. To help in this continual quest to enlarge the amount of pleasant moments, get unglued from the bad ones and accept the ones we cannot change, Barbara Sher shows us how to play games to 'trick' ourselves into shifting our attitudes.

One game, for example, I call 'fanciful perspective'--this is based on the fact that ten witnesses to one scene will likely come up with ten different versions of what happened depending upon their perspective and life experience. It follows that any circumstance of our lives can also be seen in many different ways depending upon our point of view. When we find ourselves feeling negative, we can, in this game, try on different versions of what is happening.

The more fanciful the better, in order to find one that gets us in a better mood.
