I would be lying if said that these concerns had not crossed our minds but my husband and I felt the festive period was the perfect time for our family to visit a 'developing' country, away from the bald commercialism of a Western Christmas. So, armed to the gunwales with homeopathic anti-malarial tablets, insect repellent and Dioralyte, we landed in Delhi on Christmas Eve and the adventure began.

Any misgivings were soon banished from our minds. India is a magical country and, despite the poverty and hardship, its people are welcoming, genuine and cheerful--a perfect heart-warming tonic for jaded Western travellers.

It would be naive to suggest that the children were not aware of the poverty, over-crowding and bustle of a completely different culture but far from being upset, they were intrigued....
