Lucid living: What is life? What is this dance of birth and death? Existence is an enigma of such mind-boggling enormity, it is astonishing we aren't permanently perplexed. Timothy Freke believes that most of us rarely pay attention to how mysterious our predicament really is.

We have been conditioned into a 'common sense' understanding of life we just take for granted. But what if it's completely wrong? I want to suggest that life is not what it seems and you are not who think you are because life is like a dream and you are the dreamer.

Have you ever been conscious that you were dreaming whilst asleep at night? This is known as 'lucid dreaming'. I want to suggest it is possible to experience an ultra-awake state I call 'lucid living', in which you are conscious that life is like a dream right now. 'Lucid dreaming' is recognising that you are not actually the person you appear to be in your dreams at night, because really you are the dreamer. 'Lucid living' is recognising that the person you appear to be right now is just a character in this dream of life. In reality you are the awareness which is dreaming the life-dream.
