I've been juggling work and jury duty this past week, and my brief foray into the legal system has given me a close-up view of government bureaucracy in "action"--if that's what you can call it.

For example, here's my schedule from just one day in court:

9:30 am--Court starts.

10:30 am--Recess for morning break.

10:45 am--Court resumes.

11:55 am--Break for lunch.

1:30 pm--Court resumes.

2:30 pm--Recess for the day.

Sounds like a model of efficiency, doesn't it?

To be fair, the judge did have another case going on that forced her to dismiss us early, and I don't think anyone wants the legal system to be preoccupied with...
