In the highly competitive world of public golf, courses have to improve the product constantly.
At Painesville Country Club, the third generation of the Alden family is in charge and change is in the air ... and on the turf.
"We're opening two additional sets of tees, one championship and the other the forward tee,'' Rich Alden said. "Previous to this, we had only two sets. The addition of the tees will make the course more playable for more people.''
That's not all he's doing. Cart paths are going in, "as unobtrusively as possible,'' and new sand hazards are being installed.
His challenge is to improve the course yet maintain its old-time flavor. The course is tucked away off state Route 84, and...
