Even if Tracy McGrady is the last player to rescind his commitment to play for the Olympic team - and don't count on that - USA Basketball needs to examine how the team is selected.

I don't know every detail of how the process works, but it seems to have similarities to the Bulls' failed free-agent search of 2000.

The executives begin at the top of their list and try to recruit the league's best players for the cause. When those players say no, they move down to the next choice and begin the sales pitch all over again.

It didn't work for the Bulls and it's not panning out for the Olympic team.
