George and Don Criel waited a long time for this day, as have hundreds of other area veterans whose names are etched on a monument to be unveiled in Lake Zurich this morning.
The brothers, both Vietnam veterans from Lake Zurich and Hawthorn Woods respectively, will march in Lake Zurich's Memorial Day parade with their father Donald M. Criel, a World War II Navy veteran, and brother Dennis Criel, a Vietnam veteran, both of Chicago.
But first, the family participated in the dedication of yet another memorial Saturday in Washington, D.C., honoring World War II veterans.
It took four years to erect the Lake Zurich monument, which honors veterans of all five military branches, and 59 years for the National World War II Memorial, to become a reality.
