DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Oregon's men's relay teams hoped to go fast in their appearances at the prestigious Drake Relays.

In Friday's preliminaries, those hopes came true.

The Ducks' 4x100 relay team had the best time of the day, 40.05 seconds, in qualifying heats for today's final.

The quartet of Richard Del Rincon, Matt Scherer, Kedar Inico and Jordan Kent was a bit off the school record (39.80 in 1991) while running their third-fastest time this season. They also had a 39.83 time at the Golden Bear Invitational at Berkeley, Calif., and a 40.00 clocking at the Oregon Invitational.

The 4x400 team set its sights on beating highly regarded Baylor at this meet, but they finished second behind the Bears in Friday's prelims.

The Ducks - with Anderson, Inico and Scherer joining A.K. Ikwuakor - ran a 3:09.25 and trailed Baylor (3:06.64). Northern Iowa (3:09.63) and Georgia (3:09.94) were close behind.
