Jerad Thompson was cruising through five innings with a no-hitter as Churchill built a 5-0 lead.

Then North Eugene got four straight hits that led to four runs in the sixth inning, and Churchill coach Erik Hoberg made a trip to the mound to visit his pitcher.

"I don't know what happened in the sixth, he left the ball up a bit and maybe he got tired," Hoberg said. "I asked if he wanted to finish the game and he said, `Yes, I do. I'm going to finish this game.' That's the kind of kid he is; he's a competitor."
