Shawn Mullins has been, well, sidetracked.

Back in 1998, this singer-songwriter from Atlanta scored a big hit with his single "Lullaby." You might remember the song, a pointed look at the culture of Los Angeles. It was delivered almost like a spoken-word poem - "Seems like everyone here's got a plan/ It's kind of like Nashville with a tan" - before it launched into the catchy chorus: "Everything's going to be all right/ Rockabye, rockabye."

The album, "Soul's Core," went on to sell 2 million copies. Mullins put out a follow-up record on Sony, "Beneath the Velvet Sun," in 2000.

And then?

He had a third album almost ready when the side-tracking hit. He hooked up with Matthew Sweet and Pete Droge for a side project called the Thorns.
