Oregon might not beat Baylor or Arizona State in the men's 4x400 relay at this year's NCAA outdoor track and field championships.

But the Ducks are in the discussion.

And that's a major development over the past two seasons in which Oregon's relay teams have been transformed from a mere afterthought into a key component in this year's drive toward a Pac-10 title.

`When you create a culture of excellence, the hard part is done,' said assistant coach Dan Steele, in his second season in charge of the UO men's sprinters, hurdlers and relays. `Our expectations are very high, but the good ones aren't surprised when they do well. That's what they train for.'
