Hoping to improve their grades in a difficult subject, Eugene's two biggest college campuses are launching new initiatives in their struggle to achieve diversity and racial tolerance.

The University of Oregon is putting a new campuswide diversity plan out for public comment, with meetings and discussions set on three nights in early May. And the Lane Community College faculty has just released the latest edition of a journal devoted to diversity and will hold a reading and discussion May 6.

Neither effort is meant to be the final word on the subject, and neither claims to solve the problems faced by minority faculty...
