Today, April 28, is Workers Memorial Day. Few readers have likely heard of this day, which commemorates the thousands of Americans who die in work related-fatalities each year. Today we honor 82 Oregonians who died on the job in 2004-05, among the nearly 6,000 Americans who lose their lives at work in an average year.

Workers Memorial Day will be marked in Eugene at noon Friday with a ceremony at Room 220 of Gerlinger Hall at the University of Oregon. The public is welcome.
