PROJECT OVERVIEW:

South Africa-based SASOL SYNFUELS INTERNATIONAL, a subsidiary of SASOL LTD., signed agreements with CHINA SHENHUA COAL LIQUEFACTION CORP. and NINGXIA LUNENG ENERGY & CHEMISTRY INVESTMENT GROUP in 2004 to look into the feasibility of developing coal-to-liquids (CTL) capacity in China. The country, for that matter, is aiming to curb its rising oil import bill by producing transport fuels such as diesel from its own abundant coal reserves.

As things currently stand, SASOL has warded FOSTER WHEEL ENERGY LTD. (FWEL) a contract to look into the feasibility of building 2 new CTL plants in China.
