BANGKOK's new Suvarnabhumi Airport is being built east of the Thai capital. When it opens on September 29 it will replace Don Muang as Bangkok s international airport, while Don Muang will be downgraded to handle only domestic flights.

Don Muang, located north of Bangkok, is the busiest airport in Southeast Asia and the 22nd busiest airport in the world. It handles 30 million passengers a year, and is now operating at full capacity. Suvarnabhumi will initially have an annual capacity of 45 million passengers a year, and eventually will be able to cope with 100 million passengers a year.
