THE French capital's desire to host the 2012 Olympic Games seems to have spurred Airports of Paris (ADP), French Rail Network (RFF), and French National Railways (SNCF) to revive plans for CDG Express, a non-stop rail service between Paris and Roissy-CDG Airport. On March 7, the presidents of ADP (Mr Pierre Graft), RFF (Mr Jean-Pierre Duport), and SNCF (Mr Louis Gallois), affirmed their determination to implement the project by appointing Mr Armand Toubol as president of CDG Express Group of Economic Interest.

Paris claims to be the number one tourist city in the world and a major business centre. About 55% of passengers using Roissy-CDG Airport originate in or are destined for the centre of Paris. Roissy-CDG Airport handled 51 million passengers last year and traffic is increasing. It is the second busiest airport in Europe after London Heathrow, and is the most important port of entry for France and Paris. Not surprisingly, the Roissy area constitutes the premier zone of activity in the outer Paris ring.
