When Jeffrey Mason, the head of the University of Oregon theater arts department, put a small classified ad in a national theater publication to solicit new plays, he would have been happy to receive a few halfway decent scripts by unknown playwrights.
Imagine his surprise, then, when he got a new play by Carlos Morton, an internationally recognized playwright who has worked with the San Francisco Mime Troupe, Second City, New York Shakespeare Festival, Denver Center Theatre, Bilingual Foundation of the Arts, Compania Nacional de Teatro, Cultural de Las Fronteras, Arizona Theatre Company and Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, among others.
"It's a real feather in our cap," Mason says. "Morton is one of the most prominent Latino playwrights in the country."
