PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local QATAR NATIONAL CEMENT CO. (QNCC) recently awarded a cement plant construction contract to FCB of France. According to the terms of the award, the French company will be responsible for the provision of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.

Construction plans call for building a new line that will have an installed production capacity of 4,000 tons per day. Upon completion of the expansion project by some time around late 2006, QNCC's production output will rise to 2.4 million tons per year (t/y) while clinker production will increase to 2.2 million t/y from 900,000 t/y.

As things currently stand, a formal construction contract is expected to be awarded in early June 2004. In so doing, project completion is anticipated to take 27 months from the signing date...
