PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local SABIC METALS, a subsidiary of SAUDI BASIC INDUSTRIES (SABIC), is currently gearing-up to build a new steel rolling mill in the country. Construction plans under consideration call for building a mill with an installed production capacity of 500,000 metric tons per year. Product output will consist of reinforced steel bars and wire. In so doing, SABIC recently awarded the construction contract to an American/Saudi joint venture.

The partners in the planned undertaking include US-based DANIELI MORDGARDSHAMMAR CO. and DYWIDAG of Saudi Arabia. The facility, of undisclosed cost, is to be sited adjacent SABIC's existing complex in Jubail.

The project completion is scheduled for some time in early 2006.

DANIELI MORDGARDSHAMMAR, a subsidiary of Italy-based DANIELI & C. OFFICINE MECCANICHE SPA, is engaged in rolling mills as well as endless casting rolling (ECR) and endless welding rolling (EWR).
