PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The South Korean government recently eased restrictions on facility investment in the greater Seoul area. In so doing, the MINISTRY OF COMMERCE, INDUSTRY & ENERGY has now allowed a 100% expansion of existing facilities for semiconductors and automobiles.
As a result, the local SSANGYONG MOTORS CO. is now planning to invest about $300,000,000 in order to expand the capacity of its Pyeongtaek vehicle plant south of Seoul. In so doing, the company is aiming to increase its exports to $660,000,000 by 2005.
SSANGYONG is engaged in the manufacture of sports utility vehicles (SUV) and recreational vehicles as well as passenger cars.
