College towns no longer ghost towns when students leave.

What happens to a college town when most of the students go home for the summer? Two Mississippi college towns say they hardly notice the difference. Changes in the lifestyle of students and the towns' bustling growth are the main factors. The University of Southern Mississippi had 14,000 students on its Hattiesburg campus for spring semester and the University of Mississippi had 13,000 students in Oxford.

"We don't see that much difference in the summer," said Cheryl Phillips with the Hattiesburg Chamber of Commerce. "There's not much of a break. We used to be able to tell the difference in traffic but can't see much of that any more."

She feels the number of students taking summer classes depends a lot on the cost of tuition. A large number of students now...
