Are you harboring a burning desire to go white water rafting, mountain climbing, whale watching, or on any number of other adventure vacations? Could you be an adventurous woman?
According to AdventureWoman, Inc., in the early 80's, when this particular company formed, the thought of women traveling solo, or with sisters, mothers, daughters, or friends, "was very novel."
Patti Sauber, manager of 1st Place Travel in Batavia, said that even 10 years ago, there wasn't much talk about women traveling on their own.
"There's definitely been more advertising toward adventure travel in the past few years. I think it has to do with people in our society getting in better shape," said Sauber. "I think since we've become more active, we see more adventures. More women also have discretionary income, and are getting out more without their husbands and families."
