Oregon holds the first of 15 spring football practices Saturday with a fairly simple and obvious goal to be reached by the spring game April 30.

`We need to get better,' UO coach Mike Bellotti said. `We didn't accomplish our goals last (season) and we can't look anywhere but to ourselves, both as a coaching staff and a team, for the reason.'

It promises to be a busy month for the Ducks. The offensive scheme will undergo alterations designed to spread out defenses. The special teams, Bellotti said, will similarly be `revamped.' There's even a new position listed on the defense, a strong safety instead of an outside linebacker, though the assignment won't change.

There are also seven new scholarship players on the spring roster, five from junior colleges and two more freshmen, but this spring won't be so much about the who as the what and how for the Ducks.
