Two months ago, West Chicago celebrated the opening of its new water treatment plant.

Now, the plant may lead to a decrease in sales tax for shoppers in the city.

With the plant completed, West Chicago leaders can confidently say they won't need to join the DuPage Water Commission, a consortium of 23 towns that banded together in the 1980s to bring Lake Michigan water to the suburbs.
