PHILADELPHIA - It looked as though there was blood spattered all over the kitchen floor. The ruby ooze had pooled beneath the guy standing by the stove. He was holding a dripping red butcher knife in one hand and a limp cat, by the tail, in his other hand.

In walked his wife from work. She looked stunned, assuming her husband had just filleted the bedeviled feline.

But it only appeared that a furry slaughter was under way.
