Article Excerpt This is one of a series of questionnaires that the Daily Herald will publish for all contested races in the Tri-Cities area in advance of the April 5 election.
Below are the questions sent to the candidates and their answers:
Q. Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what? What will be your main priority?
A. Douglas S. Sullivan. I have lived in Batavia nearly my whole life and love the community. I want to help maintain its status as a great place to live and learn. Anecdotally, I have learned that the Batavia Public Library fails to match the quality of other libraries in the area, such as those in Naperville and Wheaton, and I would like to change that - both as a service to the community in which I live and for myself, as an avid reader.
A. Randall E. Gibson. I am running for re-election in order to continue to assist in strengthening the library's products and services, and to make certain that, in concert with our strategic plan, new/expanded programs and services will develop for all of our constituents.
My main priority will be to improve services to Batavia Library District residents at a reasonable cost to the taxpayers.
A. David W. Rock. When the library was looking for people to fill on open trustee position last summer, I responded because I have a growing interest to get involved in the community, and because I have always had a love of libraries and books. After having been involved for the past few months, I have truly enjoyed being part of the library community and have enjoyed working with the excellent staff at the library.
